Yeshe Tsogyal is considered to be the mother of Tibetan Buddhism.
Yeshe Tsogyal is considered to be the mother of Tibetan Buddhism. She is said to be the first person to become enlightened in Tibet. Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) was her consort. Monmo Tashi Chyidron was also Padmasambhava’s consort, and is considered to be the first person to become enlightened in Bhutan, and Bhutan’s first Vajrayana teacher. They are both (along with three of Padmasambhava’s other consorts) to be emanations of Dorje Phagmo (Vajravarahi).
Yeshe Tsogyal’s name can mean a few things: Victorious Ocean of Knowledge, Knowledge Lake Empress, Knowledge Ocean, or my own translation: Queen of Oceanic Primordial Wisdom.

by Düdjom Rinpocheགནས་གསུམ་ཡེ་ཤེས་ཌཱ་ཀིའི་ཚོགས་ཀྱི་རྗེ། །
né sum yeshe daki tsok kyi jé
Queen of the hosts of wisdom ḍākinīs of the three abodes,མ་གཅིག་མཁའ་འགྲོ་ཡེ་ཤེས་མཚོ་རྒྱལ་ལ། །
ma chik khandro yeshe tsogyal la
My only mother, Khandro Yeshe Tsogyal,གསོལ་བ་འདེབས་སོ་འབྲལ་མེད་ཐུགས་རྗེས་གཟིགས། །
solwa deb so dralmé tukjé zik
To you I pray: never leave me, but look on me with compassion.ཐུགས་ཡིད་དབྱེར་མེད་འདྲེས་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
tuk yi yermé drepar jingyi lob
Grant your blessings, so my mind and your wisdom may merge inseparably.ཛྙཱ་ནས་སོ།།
